EV DEPARTMENT

The DARTZ EV Department carries on the work of Frese & Co., the St. Petersburg carriage house founded in 1827 that built the first electric automobile in Russia in 1902. In May 2020 DARTZ revived the name as FreZe EV.

Frese & Co. electric carriage, 1902

Electric since 1902

Frese & Co. built carriages for the Tsar’s stables and the Imperial Court. In 1896 it began building automobiles, and in 1902 it produced Russia’s first electric car.

Electric mail vans for the St. Petersburg Post Office followed, then in 1904 one of Russia’s first electric fire engines, which reached its first call 12 minutes ahead of the horse-drawn wagons.

In 1910 Frese & Co. joined the automobile department of RBVZ in Riga, the house DARTZ descends from.

FreZe EV

FreZe returned a century after Frese’s electric pioneers, with open electric roadsters made for the beach and the city.

The FreZe Froggy and BeachStar roadsters descend from the DARTZ Golden Calf beach buggy of 1994, named for the aluminium calf skull on its roll cage.

FreZe runs as its own marque within the DARTZ group.

Prombron’ Royal Cypher

The Royal Cypher is the first electric Prombron’, announced in January 2022. Its name honours royalty and a Sikorsky helicopter, a nod to Igor Sikorsky, whose first aircraft were built at RBVZ.

It is built the DARTZ way: on the electric platform the client prefers, with a cabin in coffee leather and banana-leaf fabric instead of recycled plastics.
